In
Madrid, European neutral capital during the big war in 1914, The
Moreno brothers already played in theatres and circus. It was in
there when an Austrian Baronesses, Flora Spleind, wanted to conquest
Wences, She was just finished her relationship with the very famous
Frégoli. Wences had to make up three or four different voices to
run away from the Austrian lady. In 1918 he was turned up in the
Novelty Theatre in San Sebastian with Argentinita’s company (group).
He made his acting debut in 1924 in the Prince’s circus next to
Pompoff and Thedy, and there, he worked with his brother Felipe
between 1926 and 1927 until he could raised 9000 pesetas that it
would let him cross over to the other side of the Atlantic.
In
1934 Wences arrived to Buenos Aires. A year after he disembarked
for the first time in New York to act in a club situated in the
popular district of Greenwich Village. During all those years he
exchanged tours all through Paraguay, Uruguay, Perú, Bolivia, Buenos
Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Caracas, México y La Habana. It was there
where he had the agreement to act in the Newyorkian Cabaret “el
chico”. In 1937 he came back to Europe to act in London in from
of King Jorge and Queen María, they were the grandparents to the
actual Queen of England. After that he arrived, with his bother
Felipe,
to
the Cairo to act in front of the Egypt king Faruk.
In
1943, after he got divorce from his first wife, he married with
an English woman with Russian’s parents and a Jewish background,
Nathaly “Taly” Coover. She was a great dancer and she could talk
nine languages, and she started, from the very beginning, controlling
the ventriloquist’s career. Wences lived the second war being as
a mayor in armed forces of the United States.
With
his acts he fully bucked the enormous carps that the American Army
had provided to cheered up the combatants in the battlefront. In
Hollywood, Mr Wences took part in some movies, like “History is made at night”,
directed by Frank Borzage, the one brought a lawsuit with the producer
because of they made disappeared his name from the screen and credits
.
He
acted also in a Walter Lang production in 1947 called “Mother wore
thights”, titled in Spain as “always in your arms” with Betty Grable
in the main character.
